or by educational value rating.
The default display is sorted by educational value rating.

The educational
value rating for each site is indicated by a number icon (1

ratings) may include material of significant educational value.
However, we recommend that students begin their investigation
of a topic by visiting higher-rated sites first.

Keyword Structure
The search
engine for the Guide has three levels of keywords. There are
8 main keywords (arms control, disarmament, export controls,
missile defense, nonproliferation, organizations, regions
and treaties). These primary keyword topics are general concepts.
Each primary keyword has its own set of subtopics. The subtopics
are also fairly general but divide the primary keyword into
more precise topics. Each subtopic is further divided into
even more specific keywords to help focus your search.
For example,
"Arms control" is divided into 10 subtopics (Biological
weapons, Chemical weapons, Conventional weapons, International
organizations, Missile defense, Missile technology, Nuclear
weapon-free zones, Nuclear weapons, Regions, and Treaties/agreements).
Each of these subtopics has its own set of more specific keywords.
See the example below:
Arms control
>> biological weapons >>
>>Ad
Hoc Group (VEREX)
>>BTWC
>>Geneva Protocol
>>Mendoza Accord
>>Australia Group
>>Trilateral Agreement on Biological Weapons
>>Verification
>>Inspections
You will
see the keyword options for further narrowing your search
at the top of the results page

Searching the Database
The database
can be searched by keywords, features or any combination of
both. In
order to maximize your use of the Guide, be as specific as
possible in your search.
The database
can be searched by keywords, features or any combination of
both. Using
the keyword section of the search page, the user types in
a word or phrase (ex: Comprehensive Test-Ban Treaty) or selects
a topic from the keyword menu (ex: Arms Control). A keyword
selection from the pull-down menu will produce a list of possible subtopics as well as search results based on the selected
keyword. The search may be narrowed further on the results
screen by selecting a subtopic.
The
feature section of the search page allows the user to search
the database for sites with certain educational features such
as internships, full text documents, factsheets, multimedia,
references or link collections. The user can also limit the
search to sites with content appropriate for
certain education levels (elementary, high school & university),
to sites with a specific Educational
Value Rating (assigned by CNS), to sites in a specific
language, or to sites with various Teaching
Tools.
